What is a Halo Engagement Ring

A halo engagement ring is designed to spotlight the central gemstone surrounded by a luminous circle or row (or multiple rows) of smaller, round pave diamonds or other gemstones. A halo of diamonds can be added to any shaped centre stone, not only enhancing the ring’s overall brilliance, but magnifying the perceived size of the main stone, making it appear larger and more striking. The allure of a halo ring lies in its ability to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. By adding a number of gems which give a multidimensional glow, the intricate setting in halo rings allow light to dance spectacularly across the ring’s surface, creating an exquisite display that sparkles with every movement. The fact that a halo ring also consists of smaller carat stones in the design, means that the style provides the glamour of a significant number of diamonds at a more accessible price point. Another fantastic benefit of the halo ring style, it can be easily tailored to suit different tastes and styles. Whether set in a classic round, elegant cushion, or unique marquise shape, the halo engagement ring promises a timeless design that exudes elegance and sophistication, that’s sure to be as enduring as your love.

The 5 Types of Halo Engagement Rings

Classic Halo: Features a single circle of shimmering diamonds that encircle the central stone. This design amplifies the brilliance and size of the main gem, creating an exquisite  centrepiece that draws all eyes in. The classic halo is perfect for those who cherish traditional beauty with flair.

Double Halo: For an even more spectacular display, the double halo offers a luxurious double layer of diamonds around the central gemstone. This design not only enhances the ring’s visual impact, it adds an opulent depth and dimension with two concentric circles of light.

Hidden Halo: Presents a unique and subtle twist on the traditional halo diamond ring design. While maintaining a sleek and elegant appearance from above, the hidden halo engagement ring surprises with a circle of diamonds tucked beneath the main stone, visible only from the side. The hidden halo engagement ring design adds a private, intimate touch of sparkle that is known only to the wearer and her beloved.

Cathedral Halo: Mirroring the grace and grandeur of its namesake structures, this halo ring design elevates the central gemstone dramatically, using sweeping arches that rise up to secure it, surrounded by a halo of sparkling diamonds. The effect of the cathedral halo diamond ring is both majestic and protective, creating a stunning visual that enhances the centre stone’s visibility and brilliance.

Gemstone Halo: Offering a unique take on the traditional halo ring design, the gemstone halo is a celebration of colour. Instead of diamonds surrounding the central diamond, this halo is contrasted with coloured gemstones. The halo might hold deep blue sapphires, passionate rubies, or lush green emeralds, and the gemstone halo is also perfect for those who desire custom made engagement rings with their favourite gems.

What is a Solitaire Engagement Ring

For those looking for ‘no halo’ engagement rings, a diamond solitaire engagement ring is a wonderful option. Defined by one majestic diamond set atop a simple yet glorious band, the simplicity of the solitaire setting allows the centre diamond to be the sole focal point of the ring. Solitaire engagement rings come in an array of setting types, each enhancing the stone so it can capture and reflect light magnificently. The allure of a solitaire engagement ring lies not just in its stunning look, but also in its versatility. Classical in design, a solitaire will match seamlessly with other jewellery for everyday sophistication or a more formal occasion. ‘No halo’ engagement rings, like the solitaire, will effortlessly pair with wedding bands of various styles without overshadowing them. For those seeking a piece that will never fade into the background, a solitaire engagement ring offers enduring grace for an enduring promise of profound love.

5 Fashionable Settings For Solitaire Engagement Rings

Classic Solitaire: This traditional engagement ring design features a single, stunning diamond set in a sleek band that allows the gem to take centre stage. A symbol of elegant simplicity and refined beauty, the classic solitaire engagement ring is so flawless it will never go out of fashion, perfect for passing down to future generations.

Tension Setting: A masterpiece of modern design, the diamond in the tension set engagement ring appears to float magically between the embrace of the band. This setting achieves a breathtaking effect by using the metal’s strength to hold the stone securely, allowing an unobstructed flow of light throughout the diamond, highlighting its brilliance and purity.

Bezel Setting: Embodying a superb modern aesthetic, the bezel set engagement ring retains the diamond so it’s fully encased in a smooth metal rim. This practical setting not only enhances the gem’s security via the protective metal, the brilliance is amplified against the clean metal lines for a ring that offers a chic and sophisticated style.

Cathedral Setting: The cathedral setting with a solitaire diamond is a majestic and romantic choice that gracefully elevates the gem above the band, allowing more light to enter from below. Blending sturdiness with architectural beauty, the cathedral setting presents a ring that is forever dramatic and awe inspiring.

Knife Edge Setting: The epitome of sleek sophistication, with the knife edge setting, the band of the ring tapers to a point at the top where it meets the diamond, resembling the edge of a knife. Directing more attention to the stone, the knife edge setting adds a touch of distinctive splendour to a traditional solitaire.

Halo or Solitaire Engagement Rings: Which One Should I Choose?

Choosing between halo and ‘no halo’ engagement rings such as the solitaire, is a decision that should encapsulate both personal taste and practicality. Here are 5 essential factors to consider, when choosing between halo or solitaire engagement rings.

1. Visual Impact: Consider the statement you want the ring to make. A halo ring, with its circle of small diamonds encircling the central stone, offers a dazzling, eye-catching appearance that enhances the overall size and brilliance of the main diamond. In contrast, a solitaire engagement ring focuses all the attention on one spectacular diamond.

2. Lifestyle and Comfort: You should reflect on the daily activities of your partner. Solitaire rings, with their simpler design, tend to be more practical and less prone to catching on fabrics, making them ideal for an active lifestyle or hands-on profession. Halo engagement rings, while gorgeous, can be more delicate and may require extra care to maintain their intricate setting.

3. Budget Considerations: Halo engagement rings can give the illusion of a larger carat size for the centre stone, allowing you to opt for a smaller, more budget-friendly diamond without sacrificing on impact. In contrast, solitaire engagement rings often require a larger investment in the central diamond since it stands alone in the design.

4. Versatility and Style Compatibility: Think about how the ring will complement your love’s existing style and other jewellery. Solitaire engagement rings boast timeless appeal and versatility. On the other hand, halo rings with their ornate design may make a bolder statement, however, this style can dictate a more specific fashion direction.

5. Future Adaptability: Solitaire and other non halo engagement rings are incredibly adaptable, and can be updated or customised over time with different bands, or a halo could even be added at a later time. This adaptability makes a solitaire engagement ring the more versatile choice for someone who may appreciate the option to update their ring to include another milestone.

Ultimately, whichever engagement ring style you choose, you should aspire to satisfy your partner’s personal jewellery tastes, while also symbolising your unique love story.
